New Close Observation Unit Opens At Moruya Hospital

People with complex medical, or surgical, needs across Eurobodalla will benefit from a new Close Observation Unit at Southern NSW Local Health District’s (SNSWLHD) Moruya Hospital. The newly refurbished unit, which opened today after twelve months of planning, stakeholder consultation and capital works, will provide enhanced facilities for the delivery of contemporary critical care services. Kathryn Lyons, Moruya Hospital’s Director of Nursing and Midwifery, said new clinicians have joined the hospital to support the delivery of critical care at the new unit. “Opening the newly refurbished Close Observation Unit at Moruya Hospital is an exciting milestone as we develop our local skills, workforce and facilities in preparation for the future Eurobodalla Regional Hospital,” said Ms Lyons. “Joining the team is a new Nurse Unit Manager, and a new Medical Officer, who will help to deliver the highest quality care for our patients.” The unit will open with four treatment spaces but will expand to seven in 2022. It will also improve the capacity for clinical response and support new models of care in preparation for the planned Intensive Care Unit at the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital. The NSW Government has committed to early enabling works as part of the $260 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital redevelopment. The Emergency Department expansion will also include a new undercover three vehicle ambulance bay, two resuscitation bays and four treatment spaces increasing the overall treatment spaces at Moruya Hospital to support improved patient care.
