Neal Watson Beats Home The Field At Tuross Vets

The prospect of a particularly cool start to play saw a number of regular golfers elect to stay under the covers this morning, resulting in a smaller than usual field of 53 players for today's Stableford event. Perhaps it was the cool temperature but scores were well down on average, with the winner, Neal Watson, beating home the field on 20 points. Runner up was Mike Birks on 19 from Ian Wratten and Rick Brake on 18. Balls or chocolates were won by Jennifer Gray, Stephen Crossling, Annette Manton, Noel Fletcher and Jeanette Miller on 17 points, Geoff Bellingham, Greg Bush, Peter McRae and Sandra Hanlon on 16, and finally Shirley Quinlan on 15 points after a 10 way count back was required.

Two players were obviously troubled by the early morning temperature and struggled to score, with Herb Muriwai edging out Solveig Olsson for the Bradman award on count back. Nearest the pins went to Bruce Martin on the 4th, Ian Manton on the 6th, and Annette Manton and Kevin Dukes on the 7th. Leonie Snodgrass hit an outstanding drive well down the 5th to take out the Accuracy award this week.
