Nature Coast Dragon Boat Club paddlers are looking forward to competing against crews from all over Australia at the Australian Dragon Boat Championships starting April 19 in Albury-Wodonga.
On Thursday(19/4) and Friday (20/4) Nature Coast women’s team will be competing in the Senior B 10’s team category over distances of 200m, 500m and 2km. This is the culmination of a season's training and competition. Apart from normal club training the team has also been training at 6.00am on Monday mornings for the past 3 months.
As an indication of their dedication some members travel from Narooma, Batemans Bay and Maloneys Beach. Several dash off to work after training.
They also have a paddler travelling from Lake Conjola to support the team. Team Manager and paddler Therese Holgate says “It’s an exciting time of the year and we are really looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best club teams in
Australia”.
On Saturday April 22 the State v State Competition takes place and five Nature Coast paddlers are part of the NSW Southern Region team that will battle it out with other regional teams from NSW and other states. They will compete in Women’s, Open and Mixed races over 500m and the exciting team pursuit with Women’s and Open teams from each region racing over a 1km turn course.
