On Wednesday we had a good turnout of over 40 bowlers. Winners, decided by Lowest Winning Margin, were Peter Tinson and Garry Burke (skip) who were down zero to 17 after nine ends before coming back strongly to square the score at 21 all with one end to play. They picked up three shots on the last end for a 24 to 21 win against Don Caldwell and Ken Burrows (skip). Second place went to Warren Bender, Rob Coulson and John Downie (skip) who started well and then were hauled back in and by end 13 the score was 10 all. They picked up the next two ends and kept the lead to win the match 17 to 12 against Col Armstrong, Dennis Maggs and Les Waldock (skip). Cindy Newell had the first resting toucher at 13.42. Well done Cindy. Thank you to Rapley and Sons for their continued support.
On Saturday we had five rinks in play and winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were Jan and Richard Hermasso and John Voytas (skip) who had a good match against Sue and Les Waldock and Terry Lewis (skip) and once again our visitors Jan and Richard put down some top bowls to take the money.
On Sunday we had three games of triples and the winners, decided by Lowest Winning Score were Peter Hawker, Olwyn Mayer and Ken Burrows (skip) who were behind five to 11 after 11 ends before they picked up several ends to rush home for a 14 to 12 win against Leanne Adamthwaite, Sue Sansom and Darrel Goodridge (skip).
Club Triples Championship
The Final of the Club Triples Championship was played on Sunday between Peter Dillon, Gavin Richardson and Greg Ryan (skip) and Allan Chisholm, Barry Goodwin and Peter Jones (skip). This was a great match to watch as after 11 ends Greg and his team had won eight ends to three but they only led 10 to nine. Peter and his team picked up the next two ends to take a 13 to 10 lead but Greg’s team came back taking the next four ends and they led 19 to 13 only to have Peter’s team come back to level the match at 19 all after 21 ends.
Greg’s team won the next two ends to take a 22 to 19 lead but once again Peter’s team fought back to take the last two ends but in a very tense couple of ends they were restricted to two shots to make Greg’s team the winners 22 to 21. What an exciting match and congratulations to Peter Dillon, Gavin Richardson and Greg Ryan on becoming the 2023/24 Club Triples Champions.
