Narooma Men’s Bowls Social Bowls Winners’ Circle

On Wednesday we had a good turnout of bowlers and again we had several visitors. Winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were Peter Hattam, Pam Grant and Margie Naylor (skip) who were down eight to 13 after 11 ends before they started to get their rhythm to make up the leeway and then take the last three ends to go on to a 21 to 16 win against Jon King, Jane Hermasso and Ron Hermasso (skip). Second place went to Peter James, their second and Brian Gray (skip) who were out there having a great, close, game where they led eight to seven after 11 ends before moving out to an 18 to 10 lead after 18 ends then they defended that lead to take the match 18 to 15 against Col Armstrong, Dennis Maggs and Les Waldock (skip). Peter Dillon had the first resting toucher at 13.16 in his Triples Championship game. Well done Peter. Thank you to Rapley and Sons for their continued support.

On Saturday the games were split into two, 10 end, contests against different opponents with winners decided by the combined winning margin of those games. Winners were Tony Gors and Peter Murton (skip) who won both matches 13 to five and 14 to five. Well done guys.

On Sunday we had three new bowlers, Christine and Scott Cockerall and Deb Morrison, welcome to bowls we hope you enjoyed the day and become permanent bowlers. Christine started off well by being in a winning team on her first day. We had four games of triples, winners, decided by Lucky Rinks were Pat Barklam, Sue Bender and Kevvy Callaway (skip) who were in a first half of two halves where they led 10 to one after six ends then gave up eight shots to lead 11 to nine after 11 ends but they got back in the groove to take their match 20 to 10 against Sue Sansom, Enid Brooker and Ken Burrows (skip). Second place went to Christine Cockerall, Julie Scott and John Downie (skip) who led eight to seven after eight ends before they got the hang of it to draw clear for a 20 to eight win against Deb Morrison, Deb Harman and Sue Waldock (skip). Julie Scott and Deb Harman were visiting for the weekend and we hope to see them back soon.

Club Triples Championship

Three matches were played this week. Garry Burke, Kevvy Callaway and Sandra Breust (skip) played Peter Dillon, Gavin Richardson and Greg Ryan (skip) in a semifinal. Greg’s team was in top form and after starting strongly they drew clear for a 25 to 10 win. Allan Chisholm, Barry Goodwin and Peter Jones (skip) played John Voytas, Jim Constan and Terry Lewis (skip) and after 13 ends the score was 12 all and throughout the second half it was anyone’s game with only a couple of shots in it. Peter and his team picked up one shot on the last end to win the match 23 to 20. On Friday Allan, Barry and Peter backed up and played the semifinal against Warren Bender, Neville Cork and John Downie (skip). John and his team got away to a great start to lead 10 to one after five ends and after 19 ends they led 20 to 14. The tide turned from there on as Peter, Barry and Allan came into their fightback mode and they squared the game after 22 ends and then took the remaining ends to win the match 25 to 20.
