Writer's picture: The BeagleThe Beagle

On Wednesday we had a good turnout of 36 bowlers with winners decided by Highest Winning Margin and this week the winners were Peter James, Mark Barthrop and Mitch Mitchell (skip) who started slowly before taking six ends in a row to race out to a 21 to seven lead after 13 ends and they kept the momentum up for a 33 to 16 win against Garry Burke, Ken Burrows and Rob Coulson (skip). Second place went to John Voytas, Peter Dillon and their skip who were 13 all after 13 ends before they won six of the remaining ends to clear away for a 28 to 14 win against Jeff McCusker, Darrel Goodridge and Terry Lewis (skip). I believe Cindy Newell confirmed her good bowls of late to have the first resting toucher at 2.47. Well done Cindy. Thank you to Rapley and Sons for their continued support.

On Saturday we had a good turnout and the winners, selected by Lucky Rinks, were Paul Naylor and Warwick, the Wazz, George (skip) who were down and dusted at nine to 13 after 12 ends and it was only on the last two ends that they picked up their act to draw clear for a 27 to 19 win against Carl Lee and Craig Campbell (skip).

On Sunday we had two rinks of triples and a rink of pairs and the winners, decided by Lowest Winning Margin, were Leanne Adamthwaite, Sue Wales and Peter Jones (skip) who were languishing at four to 11 after 10 ends before getting their bowls running for a 17 to 15 win against Jean Vos, Jan Rapkins and Ken Burrows (skip).

President Pairs

The Final of the President’s Pairs was played on Sunday between Jim Constan and Sandra Breust (skip) and Clare Cork and Les Waldock (skip). Clare and Les were on song early to race out to a 10 to one lead which was closed to 10 to five before they took five ends in a row to draw out to a 22 to five lead after 11 ends. Jim and Sandra came back strongly to trail 18 to 25 after 18 ends and on end 19 they held five shots until Les took the jack back to only drop one shot. Clare and Les steadied to pick up three shots on the last end to take the match 28 to 20. Congratulations to Clare and Les. They played top bowls throughout the competition. This was the first time the event was held as a mixed event and it proved to be a great success.
