Narooma Men’s Bowls report

December 5th 2022 Social Bowls Winners’ Circle

On Wednesday we had 40 bowlers with six rinks of triples and a rink of pairs. Winners were decided by Lowest Winning Score and this week the winners were John Rowley, James Bokko and Baxter Smith (skip) who were led 11 to eight after 11 ends and kept their form going to run out 23 to 19 winners against John Voytas, John Redman and John Scott (skip). Second place went to Peter Murton, Rob Coulson and Terry Lewis (skip) who led 13 to six after 11 ends and they continued their good form as they went on to win their match 23 to 19 against Greg Maloney, Gavin Richardson and Jeremy Seaton (skip) and despite having the same score as the winners and another team, they lost the toss for placings. Rex Dunn was on the jack early to claim the first resting toucher at 12.52. Congratulations Rex, well done again. Thank you to Rapley and Son, Narooma Plaza, for their continued support.

On Saturday the winning team was decided by Lucky Rinks with Greg Maloney and Jeremy Seaton (skip) getting the money after leading 11 to 9 after 13 ends before they finished with a rush to take their match 34 to 20 against Peter Jones and John McNamara (skip

On Sunday we had two rinks of Triples and a rink of pairs. Winners, decided by Highest Winning Score, were Kathy South, Sue Bender and Peter Jones (skip) who had all the luck in their game as they led 15 to six after 11 ends and continued that form for a 25 to nine win against Rob and Jen McIntyre, Warren Bender and John Downie (skip).

NBC Mixed Pairs Championship

Second round matches were played this week with the following results. Julie Smith and Matt Dunn (skip) played Peter Robson and Dawn Kenny (skip) and Matt and Julie were down six to 12 after 11 ends before turning things around to hit the front for the first time after 20 ends and picked up the last end for a 17 to 15 win. Ella Breust and John Breust (skip) played Greg Maloney (sub) and Pam Grant (skip) as Kevin Callaway was unavailable due to being in hospital. Greg and Pam led 11 to nine and after 11 ends and the scores were all square at 17 all after 21 ends so after John killed the first extra end Pam drove on her last bowl and after hitting the jack it went back to rest on one of Ella’s bowls to give Ella and John Breust the match 18 to 17. Rhys Budnick and Margaret Naylor (skip) played their first-round match during the week against Gail Howe and Baxter Smith (skip) and after being eight all after 10 ends and 15 all after 19 ends Rhys and Margaret picked up the final two ends to take the match 22 to 15. Sue Wales and Greg Ryan (skip) played Rhys and Margaret on Sunday and this was a game of two halves where Sue and Greg raced to an 18 to one lead after 10 ends only to have Rhys and Margaret fight back to trail 15 to 18 after 16 ends. From there on the teams traded ends with Sue and Greg prevailing 21 to 19. Alison Maloney and Gavin Richardson (skip) were in fine form for an all the way win against Jan Rapkins and John Redman (skip).

To Ponder

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread and pumpkin pie.
