Narooma Men’s Bowls

Social Bowls Winners’ Circle

On Wednesday we had 60 bowlers with two rinks of triples in the morning and eight rinks of triples in the afternoon with our numbers boosted by the welcome Steelers visitors. Winners were decided by Highest Winning Margin and this week the winners were Alison Maloney, Greg Maloney and Jeremy Seaton (skip) who were suited to the early start as they were on fire from end one as they rushed out to a 19 to seven lead after 11 ends on their way to a 29 to nine win against Warren Bender, Neville Cork and John Downie (skip). Second place went to Allan Patterson, Peter Jones and Phil Doran (skip) who built up gradually to hit top form for a 14 to seven lead after 11 ends and they continued their good form as they went on to win their match 20 to 14 against Mick Cavic, Graham Cummins and Dennis Maggs (skip). Thank you to Rapley and Son, Narooma Plaza, for their continued support.

On Saturday we hosted the Steelers again and the winning team was decided by Lucky Rinks with Allen Patterson and John Scott (skip) getting the money after being down 11 to 17 after 14 ends before they stormed home to take their match 21 to 18 against Greg Maloney and Brian Dooley (skip). Second place went to Phil Cartwright and ******* (skip) who played top bowls to lead 17 to nine after 11 ends and continued with that form to take their match 25 to 13 against Geoff Drylad and Jeremy Seaton (skip).

On Sunday we had two rinks of Triples. Winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were Kaye Whiffen, Jan Rapkins and Bruce Rapkins (skip) who were down 10 to 13 after 11 ends but timed their run to perfection to hit the lead just as the storm struck and stopped play. So, with a well deserved 16 to 15 lead Bruce and his team collected the chocolates against Garry South, Pieter Vos and Darrell Goodridge (skip).

NBC Mixed Pairs Championship

First round matches commenced on Sunday with the following results. Julie Smith and Matt Dunn (skip) played Cindy Newell and Peter Jones (skip) and Matt and Julie were all over the jack early to lead 18 to six after 11 ends and kept that margin to take the match 23 to 11. Ella Breust and John Breust (skip) played Sue Bender and John Downie (skip) and after leading 11 to eight after 11 ends and being down 15 to 16 after 17 ends team Breust raced away for a 27 to 16 win. Sue Sansom and Jim Constan (skip) played Pam Grant and Kevin Callaway (skip) and in a very good match Pam and Kevvie were down 12 to 13 after 16 ends before they finished strongly to draw clear for a 27 to 14 win. Heather McGourty and John Voytas (skip) played Peter Robson and Dawn Kenny (skip) and in a very exciting match Heather and John led 13 to 11 after 12 ends before Peter and Dawn fought back to take the next six ends to lead 25 to 13. Heather and John countered to win the next two ends but Peter and Dawn rallied to take the match 26 to 20.

To Ponder

Progress is man’s ability to complicate simplicity.

Gavin Richardson and Greg Ryan are all concentration as they play the last end in their Fours match
