Narooma Camera Club - Outing for Members - Gulaga Mountain Walk

Saturday 22nd February 2021 Outing for Members - Gulaga Mountain Walk A forested ancient volcano, Gulaga and the surrounding landscape are important for Aboriginal people and especially significant to the Yuin women of the South Coast of NSW. The steep track up the mountain was built in 1894 for gold miners. Take the gravel path between the café and car park in Tilba Tilba and continue up the mountain. At ‘Halfway Rock’ the Battery Trail leads 1.6 kilometres off the main track around the side of the ridge to the foundations of the mine manager’s residence. Return to the main track and 30 minutes later you should reach ‘The Saddle’ - a great rest spot where magnificent giant granite tors are hidden in rainforest. *** Note to our members there are a number of steps and it is a bit of a steep walk – for those who are not up to it we may suggest that you may like to sort out the sights of Tilba Tilba and the gardens in the area or surrounding farm lands and meet up with Group 1 back at around 11am for a coffee or tea and a walk together around Tilba town. *** When: Saturday 22nd 8am sharp we will be leaving at 8.15am on our trek. Where: Gulaga Mountain Walk - Meeting at the carpark at The Dromedary Hotel 266 Corkhill Drive Tilba. Bring: If your doing the mountain walk please ensure you have plenty of Water to drink / Your camera and have some fun - capture the morning light on the mountain , angles of the steps the countryside ... it's up to you. After the walk we will be meeting the 2nd group who are unable to climb the track (and have seen the sites around Tilba, farms, dams, farm animals) - we will all meet back at around 11am to have a walk and take some photos through Tilba. Then if you wish you can enjoy a cold drink at the Dromedary Hotel too its up to you.
