Moving forward requires vision
The Beagle Editor,
27 years ago my family moved to Batemans Bay from Melbourne for a change in lifestyle. At the time the population was around 5000 people, 1 traffic light and a 50M outdoor swimming pool. Now with a population of around 16,500, multiple traffic lights & round abouts and both growing by the day, it seems contradictory to be reducing the size of a facility as our area grows and grows.
On the 25th of September, Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips put forward the idea of adding a fifty metre outdoor swimming pool to the Batemans Bay Regional Aquatic, Arts and Leisure Centre, if there is clear community support for this.
There's nothing we can do now as a community to stop the omission of a fifty metre swimming pool in the current centre that is being constructed, but what we can do is support the addition of one to the overall site for the Mackay Park Gateway Complex, which includes the Batemans Bay Bowling Club site.
I, along with my Labor colleagues working towards a truly community focussed Council, give full support to a fifty metre pool being included in the Mackay Park Gateway project, and we will work with our community to ensure it gets taken into consideration.
