Council voted 6 to 3 that Council grant a five-year licence to the Rodeo Association of Moruya to conduct the annual Moruya Rodeo within Crown Reserve 580020, Moruya Showground, including the following conditions: (a) The licence fee in accordance with Council’s adopted fees and charges. (b) Provision of evidence of $20 million public liability insurance. (c) All relevant legislation, in particular in relation to animal welfare, must be complied with. (d) Licence conditions generally in line with the previous licence and the standard Crown licence. The Public Forum session before the Council meeting heard speakers for and against the granting of the licence, however, as well stated by Councillor Alison Worthington, the presentations also covered the nuances between where those opposed voiced opposition to only the less flavoursome aspects of the rodeo. The vote was Pollock, Schutz, Diskson, Dannock and Hatcher, Harrison for and against was Worthington, Mayne and Grace. Members of the community, either for or against, were advised that they should make submission to the State government who are currently reviewing animal rights that includes rodeos. For those interested in the debate the video of the Council meeting will be available online HERE after it is processed.
