A sub committee of the Moruya Chamber of Commerce has been given the task and resources to begin planning for the return of the vibrant and popular Moruya River Lights Festival that is set to light up the town and celebrate its history.
The Festival was last held in 2016 when it played a role in the Granite Town festival of that year. The Granite Town Festival is no longer after the red tape of running it in Riverside Park became too onerous with fees and insurances. Moving to the Moruya Racecourse saw the final Granite Town festival fall by the wayside as dwindling ticket sales due to the location didn't support the overheads. In all it was another case of bureaucratic meddling that saw a terrific event run by volunteers come to a sad end for want of trying.
Rising from those ashes will be the Moruya River Lights Festival that the Moruya Business Chamber wants it to run independently next March that will most likely carry a theme tied to the 90th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge that opened on March 19th, 1932.

The festival invites schools, community groups, businesses and individuals to make a display floating, illuminated craft that float by in a procession on the current.
