More Than $10 Million To Replace Timber Bridges In Bega

Three ageing timber bridges in Bega will be replaced with stronger, sturdier and more resilient concrete bridges under the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program.

In accepting its responsibilities to maintain vital transport links via a $500 million Fixing Country Bridges program the State government have funded for more than 452 bridges across the state, stepping in under obligation to assist councils with restoring their networks due to damage by fire, flood or overdue replacement.

As has been the case across the state the Fixing Country Bridges program helps councils build bridges that are wider, higher and stronger and support greater load limits. Allowing greater volumes of freight will mean a boost for transport efficiencies and productivity in agriculture and other rural industries.

Some of the bridges that were previously replaced under this program withstood recent floods and continued to provide safe access for communities. Had had they still been made of timber, they would likely have been badly damaged or destroyed.

The Murrabrine Creek Bridge to Cobargo is to receive $5.2 million in joint Commonwealth and State Government funding ($2,930,610.10) replacing the 60-year-old timber bridge that was damaged in the Black Summer bushfires. Murrays Creek Bridge - Buckajo Road, Buckajo is to receive $2,578,402.00 Ritchies Lagoon Bridge - Wallagoot Lane, Jellat is to receive $4,628,236.00
