Mogo Wildlife Park welcomes a new ‘little’ arrival – close to 6 foot tall!

Writer's picture: The BeagleThe Beagle

Mogo Wildlife Park welcomed its’ 9th Giraffe to its collection of Rothschilds’ Giraffes, with the birth of a male baby Giraffe on 3 August 2020. The baby was born to first time Mum, Binti, who was just amazing throughout her labour of close to 3 hours.

Zookeeper Chad and Mogo Wildlife Park’s giraffe keepers are so delighted to see the

baby giraffe rise to his feet relatively quickly, and the calf is showing good signs of strength and health and is feeding well.

In a beautiful sight, the whole herd of giraffes stayed close to Binti throughout her labour

and following the birth, including Binti’s own mother, the new calf’s ‘Grandma’, and the father.

Binti and the new calf are now spending some time on their own, as all new Mums and

bubs do. She can still see and connect with the rest of the herd, who like most of our relatives following a new birth, are eagerly approaching to check on the progress of the new baby.

The calf stands close to 6 foot in height and weighs approximately 90kg – 100kg,

compared to mother Binti at 4 metres in height and 850 kg in weight.
