Member for Bega to contest Mayor of Bega for Eden Monaro
The member for Bega, Andrew Constance has announced he will contest the Federal seat of Eden-Monaro in the upcoming by election after the Deputy Premier, John Barilaro ruled himself out. The Bega MP will face off against Bega Mayor and Labor candidate Kristy McBain
The announcement has brought out much criticism of Mr Constance who had only recently advised that he would not be contesting the next NSW election. The March 10, 2020 SMH article "Bega MP Andrew Constance says he will quit politics after bushfire recovery" reported that the NSW Transport Minister and Bega MP Andrew Constance says he will quit politics once the bushfire recovery is complete. "Recovery first, and then I will go," Mr Constance told the Herald. "I'm not leaving until the recovery is complete. I'm not abandoning these poor people". The minister, who was elected to Parliament in 2003, has been talked about as a potential premier but he has said that he has a new outlook on being in politics. "I am not running for anything else," Mr Constance is reported to have said.
