McBain: why has the Government done nothing to prepare communities for coming season

The Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, this week addressed Parliament Question Time asking why the Liberal -National Government won't commit to a sovereign aerial firefighting fleet, as recommended by the Bushfire Royal Commission.

Ms McBain posted "People see the growing overlap between the bushfire seasons in the northern and southern hemispheres and the benefits of a swift response to fires - especially in our remote landscape.

"Given what I've heard on the ground I asked the government about it yesterday in Question Time.

source "Having witnessed the heartache of the last bushfire season, and the 750 homes lost in my electorate alone, the Morrison Government has done nothing to prepare our fragile and vulnerable communities for this season.

"The Bushfire Royal Commission suggests the ways forward, but the Liberals and the Nationals are ignoring one of the key recommendations and refuse to invest in a sovereign aerial firefighting fleet.

"I will not allow this Royal Commission to go the way of the 240 other enquires and investigations into natural disasters.

"Our Black Summer happened on this government’s watch - delivering on the recommendations of the Royal Commission should be the core business of this government, instead communities are left unsure and doubting the commitment of Mr Morrison and this government.

"While we wait for this government to do its job people in my electorate feel abandoned."
