Marine Rescue Narooma Annual Golf Day 28 April

Without doubt, the Narooma Bar (access from Wagonga inlet to the sea) is the most dangerous bar in NSW.

Sadly, there have been quite a few fatalities over recent years, including recently.

Narooma Marine Rescue is manned by volunteers, we monitor the radio frequencies on 27 Meg (88 and 91) and VHF on channel 16, 67 and 73. As well as a Radio Club for our regular boaters.

We also run two rescue boats NA20 and NA30. Although we are all volunteers, we as an organisation, are professional and motivated individuals, working for the safety of people at sea.

If anyone breaks down between the boat ramp and the island, calling the NRMA does not cut it, that’s where we come in. Marine Rescue NSW have already made 3,263 rescues already this year.

As volunteers we are responsible for raising money for these rescues, hence our Golf Day.

The Golf day last Friday was an enormous success, and had a full field, it was played at the Narooma Golf course, which has never looked better and a credit to the staff there. A fabulous day was had by all, with everyone vowing to return next year (mark it in you calendars now).

It was an Ambrose event, which meant anyone could win, and with the usual nearest the pin, longest drive, Golden hole, raffles and the best BBQ in town on the 14th hole, everyone had a ball.

The inter service shield was successfully defended by OUR Unit, and the John Lundy Shield was retained. Participants came from locally and as far away as Sydney, and even a team from Moama.

The community support was unbelievable, with so many businesses providing prizes and support for this major fundraiser.

Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland also kindly joined us for the day to show his support.

Our sponsors helped make the day, so a huge thank you to their generosity.

Thank you to all who played, and supported this great day.

See you all next year.
