Long Beach woman charged after police officer injured

A woman has been charged after a police officer was injured on the state’s South Coast last week.

Just before 10pm Wednesday 26 January 2022, police were called to Beach Road, Batemans Bay, following reports of a group of people being aggressive towards each other.

Several move-on directions were issued, but police will allege a 24-year-old man failed to comply, before becoming verbally abusive towards officers.

As police attempted to arrest the man, he entered a vehicle being driven by a woman.

Police will allege a male sergeant was injured when attempting to arrest the man. He suffered a fractured rib and cartilage damage but has since been discharged from hospital after treatment.

Following inquiries, a 24-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were spoken to by police yesterday (Monday 31 January 2022).

The man has now been charged with possess prohibited drug, use offensive language, and refuse to comply with noticed direction.

He was granted conditional bail to appear Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 7 March 2022.

A Long Beach woman was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving. Her licence was also suspended.

She is due to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 28 March 2022
