Local South Coast Broadcaster ,Pete Disko Diskon, has announced that he is putting his hand up to run for a spot on Eurobodalla Shire Council at the forthcoming Local Government election on December 4th.
Mr. Diskon says he was going to nominate for the last Local Government Elections but two heart attacks and open heart surgery meant he had to withdraw due to ill health.
Mr Diskon has made the decision to run on Rob Pollock’s team as an independent. He says he’s heard the outside noise about Councillor Pollock’s affiliation with the Liberal Party but he says Councillor Pollock hasn’t been a member of the Liberal Party for over 10 years. Mr.Diskon also declared his hand saying he was a member of the National Party and Secretary of the Inverell Branch 15 years ago.
Mr Diskon says during his time in the electronic media he has interviewed politicians, Prime Ministers and Premiers from all Local Federal and State Political parties and has maintained impartiality at all times and he has no interest in running as anything other than independent.
Mr. Diskon says he has identified a number of areas of concern.
"If elected I would be working to ensure the Eurobodalla gets what it expects in the new Regional Hospital, that is a Level 4 hospital. The Oncology services at the hospital need to be increased not decreased and with everything that the Eurobodalla has gone through over recent years Mental Health Services needs to be improved.
"During my time on the board of Hope House I became very aware of the homelessness and low cost housing issue in our shire and will be pushing council and all levels of government to address this issue. Low cost housing is one part of the issue but there is a serious need to address the issues of homelessness in our shire and I’ll be working with homeless shelter providers to address what we need to do to fix this issue.
Mr Diskon says "I’ve noted that the community is calling for a “Neighbour Centre” in Batemans Bay, this has my full support."
"I’m on record as saying that I think Council Meetings need to be “Live Streamed”, the technology is readily available and I think this would lead to much more transparency.
I’m a communicator, I’ve been doing it successfully on Radio and Television for over 40 years and I’ve worked on the Don Chip mantra of “keeping the bastards honest”, I’ll be the Communities voice in council."
