UPDATE : Pie found

Writer's picture: The BeagleThe Beagle

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO HAS GIVEN US HELP, SUPPORT AND STRENGTH. WE HAVE PIE BACK AFTER 9 NIGHTS!

This is her sleeping and dreaming on the couch, with a bandage from the IV drip.

Linda and I have been so overwhelmed by the support shown, not just by friends and family, but by complete strangers as we have searched for Pie.

She managed to push through a shut door to escape on NYE. Like so many other animals - both domestic and wild - she is terrified by fireworks, and on NYE so many people set off illegal fireworks around Mossy/Broulee/Tomakin.

We knew she was gone within 10 minutes. Since then we have searched day and night, put up posters everywhere, continued to post on all noticeboards - both real and virtual. We have bought robocalls, boosted Facebook and Instagram ads, tweeted, letterbox dropped and talked to hundreds of people on the streets. We have set up surveillance cameras, and scoured bushland. We've spoken on the radio, and placed ads in newspapers.

In the end - it was the power of community spirit that helped find her. After reports of a lost dog on a particular bushy street, we scoured the street around midnight on Saturday night. Although unsuccessful, about an hour later there was a sighting at the nearby Tomakin shops.

We raced there and with the support of 2 amazing women we had NEVER met, searched for an hour. In the end, it was Pie who found our car whose windows had been left down. She was jumping up and trying to get in.

Needless to say, the reunion was emotional.

We raced her to the vet in the middle of the night, who pulled 5 engorged ticks from her. She has been treated, and now we are monitoring for any further deterioration as even one paralysis tick can be fatal. So far, she seems to be recovering well though - fingers crossed!

She was dehydrated, had lost about 10-15% in weight - but was HAPPY! So very happy.

We will never be able to repay the kindness and help shown to us. However, we will NEVER forget.

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
