Above: performance comparisions as at 8/11/2019 - image from Facebook As the readership of regional independent news sources such as About Regional and The Beagle continues to grow so too do the number of followers who look to these independent news outlets for their day to day news feed. The numbers above (from today 8/11/2019) are typical of the following that About Regional and The Beagle have compared to the 'mastheads' of the old Fairfax empire, now owned by ACM. While About Regional and The Beagle both publish all of their articles to their respective websites each offers their social media followers a steady feed of news via their social media pages acknowledging that many in the community primarily use social media to keep informed. The above figures clearly show that the community does want to engage in news and will do so if it is provided. With only 7,800 and 5,400 followers each About Regional and The Beagle are certainly punching above their weight when compared to Bay Post and Narooma News and by numbers of followers About Regional is outflanking the Bega News for engagement in the Bega area. Of interest is the inclusion above of the Eurobodalla Council who have not yet embraced social media by the numbers shown. With 7,900 followers who have clearly indicated they want to be kept informed the Council in the past week have offered 2 articles gaining the attention of 633. Meanwhile both the About Regional and Beagle websites continue to have strong growth and wide community support that augers well for our communities looking for quality, timely and accessible local news.
