ILLUMINATED: The Art Of Children's Book Illustration celebrates the art and importance of illustration in our significant collection of children’s books.
Wednesday, 25 November 2020 from 10:00 to 12:00
Highlights of the exhibition include the woodcuts created in the 1830s by well known French illustrator J. J. Grandville for Daniel Defoe’s The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. We are lucky to have the 1853 edition of this book in our collection.
The full page coloured illustrations in the 1899 edition of The Quiver annual are quite remarkable. They feature beautiful prints of pre-Raphaelite paintings of the late Victorian era.
Illustrations from the the much loved book Winnie-the Pooh, completed by E.H. Shepard in 1925 are real highlights. Winnie-the-Pooh is shown in his original form rather than the modern Disney version
