The winner of the 2022 Narooma Boats Afloat, Malcolm McKay best boat award, has been awarded to the I K Brunell.

The boat is owned by Rodney Martin from Emerald in Victoria. The boat is a Lacco design, 18 foot Couta boat, made from Tasmanian celery top pine and recyled red gum. It’s been meticulously built and maintained by Rodney and his son Samuel Martin a shipwright based in Rosebud.

The I K Brunell has a modified Illingsworth water tube boiler. It’s a single cylinder with 3 inch bore and a 4 inch stroke fitted with a Stephenson linked reversing motion condenser.

A ‘1970’s inspiration’ according to Rodney Martin.

Graham Peachey, President of Narooma Boats Afloat Inc , presented Ridney with the perpetual Malcolm McMckay best boat award at the festival’s Gala Dinner.
