Eurobodalla residents have the chance to get rid of unwanted items too bulky for the household bin when kerbside collection of the shire’s hard waste begins this month.
Eurobodalla Council will kick off its annual household hard waste collection in the shire’s south around Tilba on Monday 22 July, moving progressively north to finish at South Durras in early September.
Council’s manager of waste services Adam Patyus said the service applied to households receiving the domestic waste collection service.
“With a maximum limit of two cubic metres, you’ll be able to get rid of bulky items like fridges, microwaves, rolls of carpet, garden tools and furniture,” Mr Patyus said.
“Three separate collection vehicles will visit each street. One truck will collect metal to be taken to the waste management facilities for recycling, while another will collect items such as fridges, freezers and air conditioning units – to be degassed before recycling. The third truck takes everything else.”
Mr Patyus said residents should put waste out just before the collection date for their area – keeping everyone safe and neighbourhoods a little tidier – and it was helpful to separate metal items.
“Junk that won’t be collected includes televisions and computer products such as monitors and printers. These can be taken to Council’s waste management facilities free of charge all year-round,” he said.
Other bulky items like mattresses, tyres, motor vehicle parts and vegetation, as well as building materials won’t be collected and should be taken to a waste facility.
Chemicals and hazardous material such as paint, gas bottles and oil will not be collected and residents are encouraged to drop these off for free at one of Council’s Household Chemical Cleanout collections in September or at the Community Recycling Centre at the Surf Beach Waste Management Facility.
