Announcing the Festival of Open Minds 2019
A Ted-style talk fest that will open your minds and hearts
At the Bega Civic Centre
Saturday 14th September
9am to 5pm (Doors open and coffee available from 8am)
In 2018 the Festival of Open Minds attracted almost 400 people from around Southern NSW and the ACT to the Bega Civic Centre. They were inspired and enthralled by speakers including Catherine McGregor, Linda Burney MP and Hugh Mackay, plus a stellar group of local speakers and community leaders.
That event is still being talked about; the high quality of speakers, good-will and vibrant discussion in the room, and the professional presentation of the event left a mark and a sense of pride on the community.
We are excited to present the Festival again for 2019 and the theme this year is PEOPLE WITH OOMPH!
We are taking it up a notch and have locked in some wonderful speakers from near and far:
*Rev Tim Costello, one of Australia’s most respected community leaders and a sought-after voice on social justice issues, leadership and ethics;
* Nas Campanella , vision impaired Triple J newsreader, who trained in Bega;
*Aly Khalifa, working on harvesting plastic-waste from our oceans;
*Emma Booth, para-equestrian competitor, who represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and is training for Tokyo 2020;
*Pastor Christie Buckingham, spiritual counsellor to executed Bali 9 drug-smuggler Myuran Sukumaran, brings her amazing compassion, and will show a short film about her experience with Myuran;
*Sassi Nuyum (Meaghan Holt) Rising Aboriginal performance poet, local siren Corinne Gibbons brings her magical powers of bonding through song, local singer Damon Davies performs also.
There are many local speakers and leaders on the stage such as Erica Dibden of Tilba Real Dairy, the NSW Harbour Master, Bike Safety Advocate Louise Brand, young Indigenous leader Warren Foster Jnr, Campbell Page’s Shaquille Aldridge and events’ entrepreneur Darren Jones. Corinne Gibbons will have us singing our hearts out, and Damon Davies will also perform.
Local food producers have gifted some sensational deliciousness for our nourishment and many of our wonderful sponsors and supporters will join us at the Bega Civic Centre for a day of inspiration, elucidation and elation.
