Evans Park at Tuross open for picnics and play

With the weather warming and the next school holidays looming, Tuross Head residents and visitors have a new park to enjoy next to the Tuross shops.

The major upgrade of facilities at Evans Park include a brand new split-level playground, double picnic shelter, two extra picnic tables – now four in total – and wheelchair accessible barbecue, looking over the playground.

Council’s recreation services manager Mark Upson said the playground had been designed to complement the natural sloping features of the site and create a sense of adventure.

“The playground has equipment for everyone,” Mr Upson said.

“There’s challenging climbing equipment, swings, a fun obstacle course and a cubby house. The two playground levels are joined by a climbing hill and a slide,”

“The all-abilities pod swing and carousel are accessed by rubber soft-fall, so everyone gets to play.”

Mr Upson said a lot of thought went into the design of the park, after the community asked for a park which would cater to a wide range of age groups and interests, and be a place where people could come together.

“We got a lot of community input during last year’s Tuross Village Fair, so it’s nice to announce that we will hold an official launch at this year’s fair,” he said.

“The 2019 Tuross Village Fair runs from 9am to 1pm on Monday 7 October at Evans Park and the new playground will be formally opened at 10.30am.

“But there’s no need to wait, the park and playground is available for everyone to enjoy right now.”
