EuroSCUG is Back in Business

EuroSCUG, (Eurobodalla Seniors Computer Users Group) will meet at 10am on Wednesday 4 November at the Moruya Golf Club, the first time we have been able to hold a face to face meeting since March.

EuroSCUG Members Pre-Covid

It is important that the meeting start promptly at 10:00am so those attending are asked to please arrive early so that Covid-19 registration & administrative tasks can be carried out beforehand. Members are also referred to the Moruya Golf Club Covid 19 Plan and EuroSCUG’s own Covid Plan. Links can be found in the current newsletter on www.euroscug.org. Under current restrictions we are unable to supply tea and coffee but a preorder list will be available after registration and orders will be ready to collect from the bar at morning tea time.

Our Guest Speaker for this meeting is EuroSCUG member and renowned genealogist Cora Num. Cora tells us that a by-product of the various lockdowns is that family history research is booming and there is currently unprecedented free access to paid resources. These include subscription databases, digital downloads, webinars, family history conferences and much more.

Cora will demonstrate how to access and use these various resources and recommend the most appropriate ones to use for specific research tasks, from the serious to time fillers.

As the EuroSCUG Covid Plan precludes the use of any of the club’s equipment there will be no small group sessions.

Instead, two members of our Technical Team, John Allen and David Num, will give short talks. John’s topic is ‘What’s All This Chrome’, looking at Edge Chromium, Google Chrome, Chromium OS and Chromebook! Sound overwhelming? Let John help you to sort them out. David tells us he will deliver a few useful tips. Those who have read David’s newsletter contributions will know that these are likely to be very useful tips indeed.

The morning will finish with a Q&A session, where a panel consisting of John Allen, David Num and Charmaine Fripp will answer members’ questions. Those who read our newsletter regularly will already know what a wealth of knowledge this panel possesses.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, our usual Help Desk, which offers one-on-one help, will not be available.

EuroSCUG meets at 10am on the first Wednesday of each month, except December and January, at the Moruya Golf Club, and Local Area Groups meet regularly in towns along the Eurobodalla. Monthly phone and tablet groups (Apple and Android) are also held. Visitors are most welcome to attend a meeting.
