CWA State Conference Involves the Whole Bega Community

The Country Women’s Association of NSW State Conference in Bega in May this year, is only possible with the help & support of many local community groups & businesses within the Bega Valley. The Conference will be held at the Bega Showground with additional venues provided by Bega Churches & Halls including Seventh Day Adventist, Resonate & Uniting. Residents of the Bega Valley will be able to visit the Conference to see high quality displays of the state-wide CWA Land Cookery & Handicraft competitions. All schools in the Bega Valley & Eurobodalla are invited to participate in the CWA Conference ‘Make a Cow’ competition with a $500 prize for the winning school entry. The cows will be used like sculptures to decorate Bega Showground, highlighting the importance of the dairy industry in our region. The Far South Coast Group CWA conference organising committee was pleased to receive local sponsorship from the Pambula & District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank. Other financial support has come from raffle prize donations from Bega Betta Home Living and Georgies Fine Jewellery. Where can you buy a ticket for the 2021 CWA State Conference Raffle? You have two choices: All the Far South Coast Group CWA branches from Eden to Batemans Bay, will be selling Conference Raffle Tickets, or you can buy your tickets online at https://www.rafflelink.com.au/cwa2020. On-site Conference catering for lunches at the Showground will be shared between community groups – Bega & Tathra Hospital Auxiliaries making fresh sandwiches plus Bega Lions Clubs BBQ. Visiting CWA members may also lunch at Bega cafes. Other local businesses & community clubs including Tathra Lions will be assisting with CWA Gala Dinner, renamed a Bush Gathering. The local conference organising committee are planning a Waste Wise event with support from Bega Valley Shire Council’s FOGO bins, Bega Guides for Return and Earn drink containers, and Cobargo Scouts who will help with sorting waste and recycling. Visiting CWA members and their partners will be offered a choice of three half day tours during their stay in the Bega Valley. The first tour option includes visits to Bega Cheese Heritage Centre for cheese tasting, then Tathra Wharf Maritime Museum. Members on this tour will enjoy an oyster tasting experience with Tathra Oysters followed by a delicious afternoon tea at the scenic Wharf Local Café Gallery. The second tour to Central Tilba & Bermagui with accompanying tour guide, Zoe Bourke of Tilba Talks Heritage Walks, includes cheese tasting at Tilba Real Dairy, shopping in Central Tilba, and a refreshing Gelati from Bermagui Gelati Clinic. The third tour visits Eden Killer Whale Museum with a local guide, then on to Pambula for either scones, jam & cream at Oaklands Café Pambula or beer tasting at Longstocking Brewery. CWA will have a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the Bega State Conference. Helen Galton, President of Far South Coast Group CWA stated “Our CWA Conference Plan will implement all COVID rules and regulations to ensure the safety of visiting CWA members and community members living & working in Bega Valley.” With the help & support of our local community groups & businesses, the FSCG CWA will successfully host the Annual State Conference for CWA of NSW. This is an opportunity for our region to showcase ‘The country heart of the Sapphire Coast’ to hundreds of NSW & ACT CWA members.
