The Kings Highway between Misty Mountain Road and River Forest Road, will be closed from Tuesday 31 August until early December for natural disaster recovery work
The Kings Highway at Clyde Mountain will now be closed to all traffic for three days each week from Tuesday 31 August until early December 2021, weather permitting.
Closures will be in place Tuesday to Thursday between 8am and 3pm until the September school holidays. After the October long weekend, closure times will be extended to 8am and 4pm to maximise working in daylight hours and minimise the ongoing impact of the closure.
A summary of the closure schedule is in the table below.

This closure is required to remove around 400 high risk trees on the Clyde Mountain Pass section of the Kings Highway. These trees were badly burnt in the bushfires and have become significantly less stable due to the effects of storms and flooding. The identified trees must be removed as they pose a safety risk to road users and workers.
We understand this is still a significant closure however the revised schedule aims to balance the disruption to motorists and businesses with the need to safely and efficiently carry out the work and reduce the risk of future unplanned closures.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys, travel outside closure times or use alternate routes.
The northern alternate route is via the Hume Highway, Picton Road and the Princes Highway and could add up 7.5 hours to journeys depending on origin and destination.
The southern alternate route is via the Kings Highway, Monaro Highway, Snowy Mountains Highway and Princes Highway and could add up to 5.5 hours to journeys depending on origin and destination.
Transport will continue to keep stakeholders and the community informed throughout the work. If there are changes to the work methodology or if work temporarily stops, we will update Live Traffic and variable message signs.
