Last Thursday spectators were treated to a fine demonstration of precision bowling by finalists in the Women’s Consistency Singles, Paula Hancock and Yvonne Huddleston. Paula was the eventual winner with a score of 153 to Yvonne’s 127.
Numbers were slightly down for Women’s Social Bowls on Tuesday as several bowlers have taken the opportunity to head off to warmer climes for well-earned holidays, and there are also quite a few bowlers on the sick or injured list, who are hoping for speedy recoveries so they can return to bowls as soon as possible. It was a challenge to bypass the carpark and works in progress for the soon to be completed new Club Malua but after a few wrong turns the bowlers enjoyed a perfect morning of social bowls. The winners by drawn card, 17 to 13 were Carmel Price, June Williams, Barbara Vickers and Kim Giannasca, against Lyn Gowans, Jeanette Roberts, Colleen Ashby and Sue Morgan. Other winning teams were Dot Stewart, Jean Beeley, Joan Rimmer and Gayl Vidgen; and Pat Biddolph, Judy Armstrong, Helen Rees and Olga Geschwend; and Janet McKay and Ellie Crompton.
It was a big week for birthdays. Ellie Crompton, Merle Waters and Judy Davis all celebrated their Milestone 80th Birthdays! Jan Shalders and June Williams also celebrated birthdays this week .
The Money Club winners were Janet McKay and Sue Morgan. After the 1st of July the voucher prizes will be replaced by crediting directly into the Club Membership cards. The Jackpot of $2264 was back on again this week. Rink 2 was drawn and needed a margin of 3 to win. Unfortunately they weren’t lucky as number 6 was generated, so the jackpot is growing nicely for next week.
On Saturday there will be a special event for the Club to celebrate the fantastic victory by Dave Thomas and Jay Breust at the State Champion of Club Champions Pairs. It will be Mixed Gender 3 Bowl Drawn Pairs with $500 in prize money donated by Club Cabramatta.
Congratulations to a very tenacious Sonia Frey who won the District Champion of Club Champions Minor Singles held at Moruya Bowling Club on Wednesday. Club Malua is very proud of your achievement Sonia.
Next week the very popular Winter Carnival for Club Malua will run from Wednesday to Sunday. We are looking forward to catching up with many of our regular visiting bowlers.
