Tuross Head golfer Christopher Rowe, playing off a very low handicap, was the winner of the men’s first Saturday medley stableford round for 2021 with a score of 37 points.
Frank Pomfret and Paul Pereira also returned cards of 37 points but were relegated to the minor placings on a countback. Steve Jones and John Eglitis, both with scores of 36 points, were awarded the remaining vouchers. Nearest the pins were won by Christopher Rowe on the 4th hole. Graeme Bell won the 6th and Scott Kildey was closest on the 7th hole.
Thursday’s medley stableford round was won by John Nikolic with 37 points, ahead of Ian McManus 36 points, Stephen Swanbury and Rex Wood both scored 35 points and Michael Nordsvan joined the award list with 34 points. Nearest the pins were won by Michael Nordsvan on the 4th hole and Brad Doolan was closest on both the 6th and the 7th holes.
Our Eye in the Sky contact reports that a packed field of 75 players with visitors from six other clubs played this week with stableford scores ranged from 37 down to a Bradman record 16. Captain Peter Nikolic asked the obvious question but no the player who shall remain nameless did play 18 holes and not the suspected 9.
Two strange things happened today, a player who came through our Junior Development program, raised eyebrows when he played the 18th par five with a driver and seven iron to be on the green for two and then decided to 4 putt for a bogey 6. He confessed that he deliberately 4 putted because when he plays Wednesday Arvo Skins he finds it hard to win off his +5 handicap and the last thing he needed was to end up on+6. We all told him that with that sort of game and skill set he should try and qualify to play on the pro-circuit like maybe in an Asian country like Japan.
Strange incident No 2. A player who shall remain nameless bought three new irons and two hybrids. He turned up to play but did not use them. When told that if he had more than 14 clubs in his bag he would be disqualified. He was adamant that he did not have more than 14 clubs in a bag because he had two bags. It's called lateral thinking which is where he mainly tends to hit the ball.
