Changes for motorist access to Wharf Road off Princes Highway

Temporary access changes for Wharf Road will be implemented next week as part of holiday traffic measures on the Batemans Bay Bridge replacement project.

To improve traffic flow and reduce congestion during the peak holiday period, Transport for NSW is temporarily opening a new slip lane off the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.

Motorists driving southbound on the Princes Highway will be able to turn left onto Wharf Road from Friday 9 October, improving journeys for motorists travelling to their residencies or holiday parks on the north side of the Clyde River.

This new slip lane also incorporates a new roundabout along Wharf Road (above - image RMS).

When the temporary slip lane opens, the following access arrangements will be permitted:

  • Southbound motorists on the Princes Highway will be permitted to turn left onto the new Wharf Road slip lane

  • Northbound motorists  on the Princes Highway can continue to access Wharf Road by turning right at the Princes Highway, Kings Highway and Peninsula Drive roundabout intersection and travelling east via Peninsula Drive or by completing a U-turn at the roundabout and then travelling south along the Princes Highway to access the new slip lane

  • Wharf Road motorists can access the Princes Highway via the existing detour along Peninsula Drive back to the Princes Highway intersection with the Kings Highway

To minimise impacts to motorists, this temporary opening of southbound access to Wharf Road via the Princes Highway will stay in place until early to mid-2021.

Pedestrian, beach and private property accesses along Wharf Road will be maintained at all times.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control. Signs will provide pedestrian detour information.

Transport for NSW thanks road users for their patience during project construction.
