#BREAKING - Labor has called Gilmore for Fiona Phillips

#BREAKING - Labor has called Gilmore for Fiona Phillips as the Australian Electoral Commission continues the count for the marginal NSW seat. ABC News reports: Labor has claimed Gilmore for Fiona Phillips as the Australian Electoral Commission continues the count for the marginal New South Wales South Coast seat.

With more than 88 per cent of the vote counted, the incumbent Ms Phillips said the party was confident it would retain her seat.

"NSW Labor has made the decision to call the seat of Gilmore to me," she said.

"We have seen again a strong trend towards me with the absentee vote, which is very unlikely, and I am just thrilled with the result.

"The last week has been very harrowing and very hard and there has been a lot of interest in Gilmore, people have been stopping me in the street and willing me to get across the line."

Ms Phillips paid tribute to her Liberal challenger Andrew Constance.

"I want to congratulate my opponent Andrew Constance and all the candidates in the election. It has been a very tough time on anyone."

More to come. NOTE: The final counts for the seat of Gilmore are still coming in so the final declaration of a winner by the AEC is still days away.
