Body of man located following South Coast bushfire

Police have confirmed a body has been found in a home impacted by bushfires on the state’s South Coast.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended a house on Bumbo Road, Bodalla, south-west of Moruya, earlier today (Friday 24 January 2020), after concerns were raised for the occupant after a bushfire impacted the area yesterday (Thursday 23 January 2020).

Officers located human remains in the home, which had been completely destroyed by fire.

Detectives, police rescue and specialist forensic officers are currently on scene with the NSW Rural Fire Service, and a crime scene has been established.

While the body has not yet been formally identified, it is believed to be that of the 59-year-old male occupant.

Inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Twenty-five people have now died in the bushfire emergency affecting NSW.

As the bushfire emergency continues, people are urged to obey direction of emergency services and to monitor the Rural Fire Service NSW website www.rfs.gov.au and www.livetraffic.com for road closures.

Emergency services are also reminding the community not to contact Triple Zero (000) unless there is an emergency
