With so many visitors to the area and the seas still running with a solid swell the Maritime team were kept busy in Narooma proactively patrolling the Bar to ensure vessels were not chancing themselves against the powerful swells that were rolling in. While there were boating alerts and weather alerts aplenty today still saw attempts made to go to sea and to risk crossing the Bar under treacherous conditions. These were thwarted by Maritime officers in good time to those making their way down the channel, advising outgoing skippers that the Bar was impassable.

Of interest was the local standing on the rockwall waving to indicate a 2m hammerhead was cruising within 30m of swimmers at the netted beach. The Maritime craft positioned itself over the shark and escorted it back towards the Bar and sending it back to sea.

Maritime will continue with their Proactive approach across the Monaro region to ensure the community remains safe and well informed of conditions and requirements paying particular attention to our coastal Bars.
