Each year, Council awards a $500 International Women’s Day Scholarship to inspiring young women, to help them achieve their goals.

This year Cr Liz Seckold awarded three Scholarships.

Mahlia Smith Macpherson (middle) from Bega is a case worker with South East Youth Accommodation Service and started a Bachelor of Social Work degree this year. She wants to make profound and sustained changes in the lives of the most disadvantaged people in her community.

Abbee Hausfeld-Suffern (right) from Bega volunteers for Headspace as a member of the Youth Reference group. She is studying a Diploma of Counselling, with the goal of working in the community service/mental health sector.

Awarded but not present at the International Women’s Day event, Sara Anderson from Tarraganda wants to create opportunities for young artists to earn an income by selling their art via merchandise, such as t-shirts and bags.

Congratulations to these inspirational young ladies. We look forward to hearing about your activities and experiences as you travel through this exciting journey.
