Merimbula Airport will be closed for six weeks from 31 January 2022 to enable the runway extension and strengthening project to be completed as planned, with the airport expected to return to normal operation on Monday 14 March 2022.
Closing the airport for six-weeks means we can complete the runway works to the quality standard we need, and within the shortest possible time and budget.
During the closure, no flights will be able to land or take off from Merimbula Airport. Rex and Qantas have been aware of this for some time, as have the general aviation users.
Emergency services have been notified and arrangements are being finalised to enable special refuelling for their helicopters.
