With the Bay Pavilion now open the incomes and expenditures will soon be making an appearance in Council's financials and quarterly reviews. Typically Council has bundled all of its pools into single line items that has hidden poor turnstyle performance and recurring maintenance costs. Given that the Bay Pavilion is expected to cost ratepayers an estimated $3 million per year in overheads and depreciation the suggestion of a separate line item in reporting of income and expenditure along with depreciation will offer a greater transparency to the performance and utilisation of the facility. Eurobodalla Council has long directed enquiries of the business case for the new facility to an August 2017 draft that was written for a version of the facility that bares little comparison to the finished structure along with a lesser budget. While this document has been scrutinised by the public and found wanting in so many ways the alarms have been ignored. It is heartening to now hear that there will be more transparency of the general ledger on this line item as we move towards a deepening recession that will once again impact gyms, and the arts.
