Batemans Bay Boars Rugby Union celebrating 40 years

South Coast Rugby Union Club the Batemans Bay Boars are celebrating their 40th anniversary on the 19th June 2021. The day will include many matches during the day and a gala dinner that evening with “The Classic Wallabies” joining the club for the weekend.

The Classic Wallabies are ex Australian Rugby men & women players who traditionally visit 2 towns a year to assist promote the Club and the game of Rugby Union. Batemans Bay are expecting 17 or more Classics to visit. “We don’t know all names yet but have been teased with confirmation of some names to date including Morgan Turini, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Gary Pearse, Huia Edmunds, Laurie Weeks, Sharon O’Kane & Caroline Fairs. It’s also possible some current Wallabies may attend depending on results of current Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition.

Batemans Bay are one of the inaugural teams when South Coast Rugby commenced competition games in 1981. The Bay Boars have competed strongly since the inaugural season with senior men’s teams, women’s teams, junior teams and an active Golden Oldies team. The Club has won 10 first grade premierships and never forfeited a games in 1st or 2nd grade in their long and proud history.

During the day of Saturday 19th June games will include a number of Junior games plus a Kids Coaching Clinic by the Classic Wallabies finishing with a game of touch. The Batemans Bay Golden Oldies team “the Grande Olde Boars” (GOBs) will play a game against the Braidwood Daddy longlegs to be followed by the main game clash between Batemans Bay Boars and Braidwood Redbacks in their South Coast Monaro competition game.

The celebration will then include a Gala Dinner that evening at Club Catalina with the Classic Wallabies, staff and partners guests of the Boars. The evening will include some stories from the Classics, a number inaugural players attending, a silent auction of the special print Jerseys to be worn by Boars players on the day and a couple of surprises. The evening will commence at 5.45 with tickets limited and selling quickly. “The celebration of a local sporting club is very important for any community, but especially one that has stayed strong through many difficult times like the Boars have after the 2020 Bushfires as well as the impact of COVID-19”
