Eurobodalla’s job seekers are being encouraged to skill up for work in the region’s fastest growing employment sector. Health care and social assistance is the shire’s largest industry, with more jobs than eligible job seekers.
Eurobodalla Council’s employment projects coordinator Rhonnie South said the Employment Revolution program was helping ensure the shire had a local workforce skilled to meet the sector’s growing needs.
“The health care sector employs 17.8 percent of our workforce, with growth in the region predicted at 12.6 percent by 2030,” Ms South said.
“We’re looking to target specific job-seeker groups – mature age, youth, Aboriginal, and people with a disability.”
The Employment Revolution program for health care and social assistance will include industry-specific qualifications, including Certificate III in Individual support, apprenticeships and trainee placements, as well as training in entry-level and job-related skill sets.
Ms South said Eurobodalla had an aging population, with many young people moving away from the shire.
“To encourage job seekers to take a fresh look at the healthcare industry, it’s important we define new career pathways and address the negative perception of the sector playing out in the media.
“We’re working to get the message out through workshops, information nights, job drives and promotional campaigns. Watch this space.”
