Another blow to local news in regional Australia

ABC Media watch reports: More city news and fewer local stories as Nine Local News ends bulletins in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, while Ten viewers will also see changes.


Also keen to plug the gap are local governments, some of which now have sophisticated digital operations pumping out PR and local good news. So many local councils now, they have two to five media relations officers who are all producing their own publications for the community but those publications are not being scrutinised. They’re not the types of publications that are putting a spotlight on a council budget or looking at a pecuniary interest register. There needs to be independent journalism …
