The final Montague Visiting Artists concert for 2019 features the wonderful Acacia String Quartet from Melbourne. The major work on the programme is one of the all time great quartets - Dvořák's American Quartet. Dvořák composed the quartet in 1893 during a summer vacation from his position as director (1892–1895) of the National Conservatory in New York City.
He spent his vacation in the town of Spillville, Iowa and was inspired to write both this quartet and the wonderful New World Symphony. Acacia will also be playing Mozart's String Quartet No 15 and a Sundried String Quartet - a work by young Australian composer Alice Chance.
