South Coast Rugby Union Representative team

The South Coast "Marlins" Rugby Union representative team competed strongly in the Brumbies Provincial Championships on the June Long weekend. The games were played in Canberra at ANU Norths Oval in very cold and unfamiliar conditions. The team was solid and it reflected in the naming of 4 players in the Brumbies Provincial team with another 2 named as shadow players (to cover any injuries or withdrawals). The local team put in a strong first game against competition favourites and eventual tournament winners Southern Inland (Riverina) going down 32 - 14. The score line didn't reflect the strength of the team performance with a 5 minute lapse before half time leaking 3 quick tries - the difference. The second game was against a very big ACT Monaro team. Again the team looked strong and went into the break with a lead but again a lapse midway through the second half resulted in quick tries to Monaro to claim the game 24 - 7. At the end of the day Brumbies selectors named a Brumbies Provincial team to play early September with a number of locals selected. In the starting squad is Ashley Kenny (Batemans Bay), James Bell (Batemans Bay), Riley Turner (Braidwood), Justin Dariol (Braidwood). Shadow players selected were Sam Northcott (Braidwood) and Lachlan Bannerman (Bungendore).
