A blast from the past as we trawl the Council archives: Below is a motion to Eurobodalla Council in 2010: For at least the last 20 years there has been a call by the community for significant upgrades to be made to Princes Highway from the Victorian Border through to Wollongong. Some improvements have been made over that time, but there is still a need to do more. The Princes Highway is under the control of the Roads and Traffic Authority Control. That being the case it follows they are the Authority that will make decisions about maintenance and other improvements to the Princes Highway and fund them from the monies allocated to them from the State and Federal Governments. We need to influence the RTA and State and Federal governments to “fast track” the improvements needed. The Hume Highway duplication from Albury through to Sydney is expected to be completed in the next two years. Contracts for the last section of the duplication have been organized and let I believe. When that work is completed there should be funds available at both the Federal and State Government levels that should be applied to the upgrading and duplication of the Princes Highway. The Princes Highway is virtually the only way the East Coast between Sydney and Victorian Border can receive goods that are needed to keep the Economy‟s of the local towns and regional centres viable. I suggest Council support a motion to be prepared by Council staff and it be submitted to the next Local Government Association Conference. NOTICE OF MOTION TO ORDINARY MEETING OF COUNCIL HELD ON TUESDAY 25 MAY 2010 by Councillor Allan Brown: RECOMMENDED THAT Council prepare a motion to be submitted to the next Local Government Association Conference requesting funding for planning, upgrading and duplication of the Princes Highway between the Victorian Border and South Nowra using the monies that will become available once the Hume Highway duplication is completed in about 2 years time.
