Greens reveal Eden Monaro preferences

In a statement on Preference Recommendations from The Greens candidate for Eden-Monaro, Mr Pat McGinlay he advises that The Greens in Eden-Monaro are recommending that electors vote 1 for The Greens and then 2 for ALP candidate Mike Kelly to ensure a change of government on 18 May 2019.

The Greens candidate, Pat McGinlay, said "voters who understand the urgency of taking real action on climate change, enacting strong environmental laws, and creating a truly fair nation should vote 1 The Greens in Eden-Monaro and in the Senate."

“Voting 1 for The Greens in Eden-Monaro is a vote for a plan to phase out coal power and move to a renewable energy economy by 2030. It’s a vote for a plan to protect Australia’s unique natural areas and the animals they support,” Mr McGinlay said.

“Voting 1 for The Greens is a vote for creating a fair Australia with well-funded public services including those that support vulnerable and disadvantaged Australians. It’s a vote for a compassionate refugee policy and an end to offshore detention.

“And voting 1 for The Greens is a vote to clean up politics so our democracy works for everyone, not just those who can buy access.

“We are recommending a second preference for the ALP because, while Labor’s policies are not as good as The Greens’ policies, we need a change of government to make progress on the many challenges facing our nation." Pat McGinlay , Greens candidate in Eden-Monaro

“The progress we need to make can’t happen if the Liberal-National government is returned. That’s why The Greens in Eden-Monaro are recommending voters put the Liberal Party last.”

Mr McGinlay reminded voters that it’s important to number each box on the House of Representative ballot paper.

"A strong vote for the Greens in the Senate is also important. Voting 1 for The Greens Upper House candidate, Senator Mehreen Faruqi, will help to ensure that whichever party forms government, it will be held to account,” Mr McGinlay said.

“Greens senators have a strong record of scrutinising proposed laws and government decisions. It’s vital that we continue to have a Senate that can perform this role and voting 1 for Senator Faruqi will help to achieve this.” Early voting has already opened in Queanbeyan and will be available in other centres in Eden-Monaro on Monday, 6 May.
