A small Bodalla based business has sidestepped the ugliness of the Electric Vehicle (EVs) debate in the run-up to the May 18 Federal Election and installed a charging point ready for Easter holiday traffic on the Princes Highway.
“It’s wonderful that we are talking about EVs, and it’s wonderful that this is being seen as ‘the climate election’ but I hate the politics of it all,” says Steve Cornthwaite of Micro Energy Systems Australia.
Originally an electronics tech with Defence, Steve and his wife Lisa have a passion for renewable energy specialising in grid connect, off-grid solar and renewable energy solutions.
Their latest contribution to the cleaner energy needed for the future is an EV fast charging point, that is free to use for anyone who shops in Bodalla.
“Stop in and try our recently upgraded 7kW 32A fast charge type 2 charge point,” Steve says.
“There are adaptor leads there that will take 90% of EVs.”
Steve says a midpoint charge will take about 15 minutes, or “a couple of hours from flat.”
“We are trying to kick start the whole charge network for EVs, there has been a lot of reluctance, it’s only recently that its starting to grow some legs.”
The Micro Energy Systems charge point is just off the Princes Highway, on the southern side of the village, close to the Blue Earth Cafe and walking distance to a number of other cafes and local attractions.
“And if you can show us a receipt from one of our local Bodalla businesses, your plugin is free!”
Steve says he has more than enough solar power and is happy to share it, “I don’t subscribe to charge points that aren’t connected to renewable energy options.”
“We are heading towards purchasing an EV ourselves, we have been interested in this for years, so we installed the fast charge point and a 7kW solar system to get started.”
