A privilege and joy to be part of today

Dear Editor, What a privilege and a joy to be part of the historical gathering convened by our Young Ones on Friday 15th March 2019. It was part of a huge Global Movement of Young People concerned about the well being of our beautiful Planet. They ranged in age from 10 yrs to senior students. Their awareness and concern gave them the courage to 'go on strike' from school --create banners, organise a gathering and take turns to stand and speak via a microphone to the huge crowd that had gathered to hear from them...Politicians were noticeably absent. In fact were insisting they ought to be under control and in school. (Actually the Australian Federation of Teachers gave the okay as they felt our youth have a right to be heard too.) After all they're going to be the ones left with the mess. My town's school obeyed that directive so I travelled to Bega to listen to their 'Young' - The generation about to inherit Planet Earth's struggle to cope with the affects of our unwillingness to fully address the man made causes of climate change. It was truly inspiring, strong clear and passionate. Put me in mind of the words "and a little child shall lead them..." their purity, innocence and idealism....so untainted by the egoism, greed and competition we've allowed to become dominant in the working world. Hopefully we'll have the humility and courage to allow ourselves to connect with the beauty, imagination, truth and deep caring of that 'young one' within each of us. Imagine the 'healing' and 'turn around' we could achieve -not only for the Planet but within ourselves -our families and All who call Australia Home. At the end of our gathering Matthew Nott invited All (including the Young People) to a meeting on Tues. evening, the 19th March at the Council Chambers to hopefully set the target of 100% clean energy use by 2020. It felt so GOOD and POSSIBLE. P deLaney.
