Narooma Visitor  Information Centre a great success over summer holidays

The Narooma Visitor Information Centre (VIC) was extremely busy over the Christmas holiday period of December/January. Approximately 5.5 thousand visitors dropped into the Centre over this period. Overseas visitors mainly from Europe counted close to 1 thousand of said visitors. On one day in early January 300 visitors walked through the door. As you can imagine Montague Art and Craft Society (MACS) who run the VIC have been extremely busy.

Many of our MACS members work at the VIC on a roster basis. We also have Friends of the VIC who also work rosters at the VIC. These wonderful volunteers are not artists but have a feeling of giving back to the Narooma community by working a shift at the VIC. If any one reading this article would like to volunteer their time to talk to tourists about our wonderful town and help make their visit even better, do feel free to come and talk to us at the Centre. You may only want to work 1 half day a week or a month. If you feel you would like to do this we would welcome you with open arms.

The VIC is open all year with the exception of Christmas Day. The hours are from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm week days and 9.30 to 1.30pm on weekends.

We recently changed our hours and shortened the weekend hours. We did not really want to do this as we know how busy it is until after Easter. We tried to see if we could close earlier in the quieter months when we are not as busy and stay open longer in the busy months but were advised by the Eurobodalla Council we are contracted to open 42 hours per week and therefore could not reduce hours during the “off” season. We have had a number of queries as to why we had changed our hours.

If you are a local resident and have not been into the VIC, please do take the time to visit. We have beautiful cards and many gifts made by local artists for sale. Our notice board advertises many local events, we sell bus and V Line tickets and have information about the local charter boats who sail to Montague Island. We do not book accommodation but have ready access to assess on line availability of places to stay in our local area.

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
