Mayor and Dale: Just how much is all this costing?

The Beagle Editor, The council decided to get rid of the Mini Golf and are now in negotiations to work out the settlement cost after deciding to end the lease for the Mini Golf at Mackay Park. Now the Mayor has done a 180 degree turn and said on radio that they have listened to the community and will try to fit the Mini Golf in to Mackay Park down the track. In the meantime she has told us the Mini Golf has to go so the new leisure centre can be built. We now know it has already cost $4 million to have all the plans and everything drawn up and they now tell us that they are going back to the drawing board and drawing up Concept D. Meanwhile the drilling team is on-site next to the Mini Golf and what they are finding is sand, more sand and then more sand with a very shallow water table which sounds pretty much the same as what they found across the road at Stocklands Plaza. The council guy at the information kiosk said in front of witnesses that they are going to need more than $51 million to build this and the foundations will need a lot more money. Then another council guy said that there was only 220 car spaces so when they have the 350 seat theatre events the pool will be closed so there is no need to worry about car parking spaces. What happens when there is a school concert during the day with parents and the pool is open as well with hydrotherapy and swim squad. Where will they park then. The architect is in a pickle all over the place. Where there is meant to be a loading zone he has park and trees and they can't even answer the question of where the front door will be. They have an idea of a promenade footpath out the front parallel to the highway along the site but who is going to come by foot. People can't even get to it by bus. What do they have at the moment - Nothing - Sweet FA - after $4 million dollars all they can tell us is that they have been listening but have they? The swimmers are unhappy, the hydro pool people are unhappy, the theatre people are unhappy, the community hall people are unhappy and rather than give us what we want they are giving us what they want. Do we need to have a Learn to swim pool when there is one being built just down the road. Do we need another splash pad when families can already use any one of four existing ones in the town for $15 per hour including the one at the council owned caravan park. Do we really need an auditorium/exhibition centre when the town has a terrific one at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club. Do we need an art gallery when they are about to open a $3 million Basil Sellars regional gallery in Moruya. And what of the promise of the Mayor to look into a 50m sea pool. The new leisure centre has hairs on it. More hairs than Cousin It and the councilors are mute and as useless and teats on a bull as they do and say nothing. When you ask them something they parrot the mayor. Jack Tait even managed to parrot the mayor and staff at one point. The upstart council staff guy at the kiosk said they have the figures of how much the concepts cost but that isn't public information. Pigs arse it isn't bucko. You have forgotten that you work for the community and it is our *****edited*** money (sorry.. just angry at his audacity - this is the same guy who said they are going to demolish the Community Centre - our community centre that THEY are going to demolish - who the heck to THEY think THEY are ?) What we have is so many layers of bullsh*t stacked on top of itself that they don't even know what is true or not. Nothing they say anymore can be believed. And to top it off everyone has forgotten that all any of us wanted was a hydro pool and an exhibition hall. Disgusted in the lot of them - snakes and eels. Name and address supplied for fear of retaliation
