Wake up Moruya

The Editor, Lived in Moruya long enough to see it get bigger. Lived here when there were no round abouts. Lived here when there were no traffic lights. Lived here when there weren't queues lined up the length of Mullenderree or backed up to Noads Road. First up came the roundabout, then they got rid of the town pedestrian crossing and did the lights. next was the Ford Street roundabout where Pricey's boat came famously off its trailer. More bloody roundabouts in Ford Street then the South Head roundabout. Every time they added something they stuffed up the flow. And the flow kept getting bigger. You don't have to be a genius to see that Moruya now has every single truck that goes from Wollongong to the Narooma, Bega and Eden go through it. Estimates are over 1000 tonnes of cars, buses and trucks on an average day (good mate from RTA told me) and during summer that blows out to over 2000 tonnes per day, six days a week. That is a lot of fumes. I have seen Moruya's main drag go from being quiet and safe with a zebra crossing to a funnelled highway with more traffic than we have ever known. I have seen them over recent years speeding along Evans Street to beat the queue into town from the TAFE and I have watched them from the Heron Cafe roar through Ford Street to beat the cars queued at the town lights.

And what are "they" doing about it ? Heard that council is going to make Ford Street 40kms instead of 50. For %$#@ sake they do 60 along there now and don't get booked. Will a 40 speed limit stop them? More bandaid fixes from a mob who have no vision. Where is the the vision? Wardie talked about this last year and no one listened. Moruya needs a by-pass. Build a new bridge east of the current one. Use William Street. Think about a bridge to use George Bass Drive. If only someone would grow a set and tell the State Government that we have all seen the future and Moruya is becoming more and more like a thunderdome %^$#hole with fumes and dirt coming into the shops. Talk to the shop keepers. Go on. If it is too hard for "them" to think ahead then get rid of "them" and put someone else in. What I saw today on Shore Street with everyone coming around Moruya via the back way and Page Street was disgusting. They were flying past the Golf Club and lots had out of town number plates. Wake up Moruya - "they" don't give a sh*t - you are only 7000 votes and a bypass isn't even on their radar. name and address withheld (because I contract for Council)

"This is what Vulcan Street was designed for - wake up Moruya, you are being conned"
